THE PENNSYLVANIA STATE ASSOCIATION OF BOROUGHS

Public Bid Threshold Increase

The PA Department of Labor and Industry (L&I) recently released 2019 public bid thresholds for boroughs and other public agencies. Bid thresholds are updated yearly by L&I based on changes to the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

L&I published the increase in the Pennsylvania Bulletin on November, 24th.

The new bid thresholds for 2019 are as follows:

  • purchases or contracts between $11,100 and $20,600 require telephone or written price quotes from at least three qualified contractors as specified in section 1402 of the Borough Code.
  • purchases or contracts greater than $20,600 require public notice and pubic bids as specified in section 1402 of the Borough Code.

Note that the new 2019 threshold figures are an increase from 2018 bid thresholds: $20,100 and $10,900 for public bid and written/telephone quotes, respectively.

These new bid thresholds take effect on January 1, 2019.
